Acceptable Goods and Prohibited Items

Last updated: 22 July 2026

To keep our drivers, customers and property safe, and to make sure we use the right vehicle and handling for your booking, certain goods cannot be carried or stored by MIRO, and others must be declared in advance.

Your Responsibility

When you book with us, you must accurately describe what you need collected, delivered or stored, including category, quantity, approximate weight and condition, and confirm that goods are packed and secured appropriately. This helps us plan the right vehicle, handling and, where relevant, insurance considerations for your booking.

Items We Cannot Carry or Store

We cannot transport or store:

  • Illegal or stolen goods.
  • Explosives.
  • Firearms, ammunition or weapons that are not specifically approved.
  • Hazardous, toxic or radioactive materials.
  • Human remains.
  • Live animals as cargo (this does not affect an approved pet travelling with you during a booked removals move, which is covered separately by our passenger and pet conditions).
  • Anything else that is unlawful, or unsafe, to carry or store.

For storage specifically, we also cannot accept fuels, gas cylinders, flammable, corrosive or otherwise hazardous materials, waste, perishable food, live plants, damaged batteries, or contaminated, wet, mouldy or infested goods.

Items That Need to Be Declared in Advance

The following items are not automatically refused, but must be declared before booking so we can assess them properly. Depending on the item, this may mean requesting more information, arranging a specific vehicle or handling approach, adjusting price, or, in some cases, declining the booking:

  • Fragile goods, including glass, ceramics and mirrors.
  • Art and antiques.
  • Jewellery, watches and precious metals.
  • High-value electronics.
  • Prescription medication and medical samples.
  • Temperature-sensitive goods.
  • Alcohol and tobacco.
  • Machinery and heavy or oversized goods.
  • Cash-equivalent documents.
  • Goods with a high declared value.
  • Non-standard lithium batteries.
  • Unpacked goods.
  • Anything else needing specialist handling.

Declaring one of these categories does not automatically mean it is covered by our insurance arrangements or that additional cover applies — see our Insurance and Liability policy for how cover works.

Weight and Size

Items over 25kg are reviewed for suitable handling, and items over 50kg should not be assumed suitable for one person to carry alone. Specialist lifting equipment or additional handling support must be agreed with us in advance.

Storage Condition Requirements

Goods placed into storage must be packed, sealed, protected, clean and dry. Mattresses and soft furniture must be clean, dry and covered. We may refuse goods that do not meet these requirements.

If Goods Turn Out to Be Unsafe, Prohibited or Different From What Was Declared

If we discover, at collection or later, that goods are unsafe, prohibited, undeclared, or materially different from what was described when you booked, we may pause work where it is safe to do so, and we may decline to carry or store them. Where reasonably possible, we will discuss this with you and look at what can be safely and lawfully arranged instead. Any costs directly and reasonably caused by this may be charged, in line with the fairness principles set out in our Refund and Cancellation Policy. We will not create an unsafe situation in order to force acceptance of goods.
